Why Buy a Gas Class B from Bella Vista RV?

When you choose a gas-powered camper van, you are choosing simplicity and independence. At Bella Vista RV, we understand that our customers want to spend their time exploring, not searching for specialized diesel mechanics. Our team in Oro-Medonte provides expert guidance on the unique benefits of the gas platform, including superior cold-weather starting reliability—crucial for Ontario shoulder seasons—and the convenience of filling up at any standard gas station. Our "Red Carpet" delivery ensures you know exactly how to operate your Volstart autostart system and lithium power banks before you leave our lot.

Shop by Ram ProMaster Chassis Features

The Ram ProMaster is the backbone of the modern gas Class B market. It offers distinct advantages that make it perfect for the Ontario landscape:

  • Front-Wheel Drive (FWD): Unlike many RWD diesel vans, the gas ProMaster pulls the vehicle rather than pushing it. This provides superior traction in rain, snow, and on loose gravel campsites.

  • Best-in-Class Turning Radius: Navigate downtown Barrie or tight campground loops with ease. The tight turning circle makes U-turns simple and parking stress-free.

  • Widespread Serviceability: You can have your engine serviced at any Ram / Dodge dealership in North America, ensuring you are never far from help if you need an oil change or repair.

The Ease of "Van Life" Touring

Gas Class B motorhomes are the "Swiss Army Knives" of the RV world. They are small enough to be used as a second family vehicle but capable enough for cross-country travel.

  • Park Anywhere: Fit into standard parking spots at malls, trailheads, and restaurants.

  • No DEF Required: Forget the hassle and expense of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Just fill up with regular unleaded and go.

  • ** Stealth Camping:** Without the loud clatter of a diesel engine, gas vans are quieter at idle, making them better suited for discreet overnight stops or early morning departures.

Performance & Efficiency

Don't let the "Gas vs. Diesel" debate fool you—modern gas engines are powerhouses. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 found in our Roadtrek inventory is one of the most proven engines in the world. It delivers snappy acceleration for highway merging and ample power for climbing the hills of Muskoka. While diesel may offer slightly higher MPG, the lower cost of gasoline and lower maintenance costs (cheaper oil changes, fuel filters, etc.) often make the "Total Cost of Ownership" for a gas van significantly lower for the average camper.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gas Camper Vans

Is a gas engine powerful enough for a fully loaded camper van? Absolutely. The 280+ horsepower V6 engines in modern Roadtreks are designed to handle the weight of the conversion effortlessly. They actually offer faster acceleration than many diesels, which is helpful when merging onto the 400-series highways.

How does the generator work in a gas Class B? Most of our Roadtrek gas models feature an "Underhood Generator." This is a secondary alternator dedicated to charging your house batteries. It runs off the van's gas engine. If your batteries get low, the system can auto-start the van (even while locked) to recharge them, meaning you never have to worry about running out of power.

Can I drive a gas Class B in the winter? Yes. In fact, gas engines are generally preferred for extreme cold weather starting compared to diesels, which can gel up without additives. Combined with the Front-Wheel Drive system of the ProMaster chassis, a gas Class B equipped with good winter tires is a very capable four-season touring machine.
